German Fest will meet Oct. 16, 6 p.m. at Webster American Legion Clubroom to recap this year’s festival and start planning for the 2023 festival and 20th anniversary celebration of the Friendship signing with Dewangen. Agenda includes public appointments and hearings including 7 p.m, – Todd Garry, nuisance concern, 7:10 – temporary liquor license; business items of set date to close golf course, 90 day review, audit report, hangar rent, set hearing to vacate a portion of 9th Ave. E., golf car lease agreement, city property at 5th Ave. W., water rates, building permits and executive session if needed.
A total of 23 sobriety checkpoints in 16 counties including Day County are scheduled during October, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. Checkpoints are designed to encourage people to not drink and drive. Officials remind drivers not to drink and drive regardless of whether there is a checkpoint planned in their county.
