Turkey shoot is Oct. 23, 1 p.m. at Grenville American Legion Hall. Lunch will be available by Grenville Legion Auxiliary.

Pheasant opener

Bristol Firemen’s fundraiser pheasant opener is Oct. 15, 5-9 p.m. at Pirate Activity Center, Bristol.

Westside Wesleyan Church, Bristol events for Oct. 9 are 10 a.m. Sunday school and 11 a.m. worship.

German Fest meeting

German Fest will meet Oct. 16, 6 p.m. at Webster American Legion Clubroom to recap this year’s festival and start planning for the 2023 festival and 20th anniversary celebration of the Friendship signing with Dewangen. Those interested in helping with plans are encouraged to attend this meeting. The event is scheduled for Sept. 23, 2023.

Webster American Legion Auxiliary will meet Oct. 4, 7 p.m. at the Legion hall, Webster.

Council meeting

Webster City Council meets Oct. 3, 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall council room. Agenda includes public appointments and hearings including 7 p.m, – Todd Garry, nuisance concern, 7:10 – temporary liquor license; business items of set date to close golf course, 90 day review, audit report, hangar rent, set hearing to vacate a portion of 9th Ave. E., golf car lease agreement, city property at 5th Ave. W., water rates, building permits and executive session if needed.

Sobriety checkpoints

A total of 23 sobriety checkpoints in 16 counties including Day County are scheduled during October, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. Checkpoints are designed to encourage people to not drink and drive. Officials remind drivers not to drink and drive regardless of whether there is a checkpoint planned in their county.
